The Magical World of Puppets at Veliki Tabor Castle delighted the youngest
Last Saturday, May 23, 2026, Veliki Tabor Castle became a true center of children's joy, imagination and family gatherings. A large number of children and parents gathered in the unique ambiance of one of the most beautiful Croatian castles to enjoy the event The Magic World of Puppets, which introduced the youngest to the world of theatrical magic through performances, stories, laughter and interaction with the audience.
During the three hours, entrance to Veliki Tabor Castle was free for all visitors, which further contributed to the large turnout of families with children. The program was held as part of the Living Castles 2.0 project - Strengthening the cross-border network of 'living' castles by promoting inclusive and accessible cross-border cultural tourism, which is being implemented within the framework of the Interreg Slovenia - Croatia 2021 - 2027 program. It was precisely the free entrance that made cultural content more accessible to a wider audience, especially children and families.
The puppet shows that alternated throughout the program aroused particular interest among the audience. Young viewers had the opportunity to enjoy warm, educational and entertaining stories such as Grandpa and the Turnip, Stone Soup, Elmer and the Lost Bear, The Legend of Veronica of Desinić and My Grandfather's Treasure Chest. The performances were performed by the theatre groups World of Puppets (Svijet lutaka) and Ioculatori.
The play The Legend of Veronica of Desinić attracted particular attention, which had a special symbolism in the Veliki Tabor area. The famous legend of Veronica and Frederick came to life right where the memory of one of the most famous Zagorje stories has been preserved for centuries. The combination of the historical space, puppet theatre and interested audience created an impressive atmosphere that further enriched the entire event.
Parents and children enjoyed not only the performances, but also the opportunity to tour the museum space and spend time in the beautiful landscape of Hrvatsko Zagorje. Veliki Tabor Castle once again proved to be an ideal place to combine culture, play, learning and quality family time.
The event showed that castles can be much more than historical monuments. They can become vibrant places of encounter, creativity and inclusive cultural tourism, open to all generations. Last Saturday, Veliki Tabor Castle was just that – a castle filled with children's laughter, stories, puppets and magic.
