28 / 5,000 ”Black Nights” in Veliki Tabor

On the occasion of Halloween, on Tuesday, October 31, 2023, starting at 7 p.m., the premiere of the theater play Black Nights performed by Boss Teatr will take place at the Veliki Tabor Castle.

The play is inspired by the legend of Veronika Desinićka, who was herself a victim of witchcraft persecution in the 15th century. The aforementioned oral tradition tells of the unhappy love of the lower noblewoman Veronika and the nobleman Frederick II of Celje. According to legend, Frederick's father Herman accused Veronika of being a witch and then had her killed and walled up within the walls of Veliki Tabor. The play is imbued with an atmosphere of creepiness and cynicism, humor and horror, and focuses on the dialogue between Veronika Desinićka and her executioner – the blacksmith. The play stars Denis Bosak as the executioner and Vini Jurčić as Veronika, the play's text is by Kristina Štebih, and the direction is by the actress of the Varaždin Croatian National Theatre, Barbara Rocco.
