European Heritage Days in Veliki Tabor Castle

Veliki Tabor Castle

Dvor Veliki Tabor participated in the celebration of the European Heritage Day again this year, through the months of September and October. Heritage that connects - cultural routes and networks! was a central theme at the European level, which was intended to emphasize the importance of common values, history and cultural heritage that permanently connects and networks individuals and communities.

On Saturday, September 21, a free workshop was held by Jelena Bužanić, curator archaeologist of Veliki Tabor Castle, where participants learned what archeology is, who archaeologists are and what they do every day. After getting acquainted with the basic terms in archaeology, they had the opportunity to apply that knowledge and try participating in archaeological research and primary analysis of finds, i.e. excavating objects and documenting and photographing them.

A week later, on September 28, at a free workshop held by restorer technician Andrea Brlobuš, the participants learned how to prepare clay and, after the presentation, modeled monstrous fantastic creatures related to various stories and traditions, as well as medieval glasses.

The main part of the program was held on Monday, October 7, in cooperation with the Elementary School of Đuro Prejac Desinić, the Museum "Old village" Kumrovec and the Croatian Institute of History. The event was opened by the manager of the Veliki Tabor Castle, Paul Lekaj, and was complemented by a lecture of an associate professor, Ph.D. Alexander Buczynski from the Croatian Institute of History on the subject of Witch Persecution. 280 years ago, cases of persecution of witches and sorcerers were recorded on the Veliko Tabor estate. As an addition to the lecture, 8th grade students from Desinić were given leaflets about Witches and Warlocks on the Veliki Tabor estate, which introduce the public to the aforementioned persecutions and court trials from 1744. At the educational and entertaining workshop Making devices - but NOT for torture, held by Mateja Harapin, museum educator from the Museum "Old village" Kumrovec, students made torture devices by designing a milder version that does not bring pain, but pleasure.
