Carnival at the Krapina Neanderthal Museum
The Krapina Neanderthal Museum reminds us every year that carnival time is actually a time for a joyful game of disguise, freedom and creativity with the Masks from Prehistory workshop.
The children who arrived at the workshop enthusiastically made masks inspired by prehistory, mostly Neanderthals and Skull C - the most famous Krapina skull, and in the process they learned interesting facts from the history of masking. They learned that the oldest masks were made of stone and were used for ritual purposes, that there are theater, dance, warrior and carnival masks, and that even bans in the past did not prevent people from wearing masks. The participants ended the gathering with a cheerful procession, touring the permanent museum exhibition and the Hušnjakovo Site.
The author and leader of the workshop is Lorka Lončar Uvodić, and the trainee curator Natalia Mladineo also participated in the implementation.
