Science Festival at the Krapina Neanderthal Museum

Krapina Neanderthal Museum

The Krapina Neanderthal Museum participated in the Science Festival program again this year, an event organized by the Nikola Tesla Technical Museum in Zagreb.

The theme of this year's Science Festival is Nature and Society. On this occasion, an educational workshop entitled Let's Get to Know the DNA Molecule was held at the Museum. It was attended by 8th grade students from the "Ljudevit Gaj" Elementary School in Krapina with their teacher Tanja Dunaj. Through a short presentation, the students learned about the story of the discovery of the structure of the DNA molecule and its composition, and then each of them made their own model of the molecule from plasticine, using already made wire templates. After making the model, the students briefly visited the Museum, namely the part where the sculpted model of the DNA molecule is exhibited, and connected the importance of the DNA molecule in genetic research of Neanderthals and their connection with modern humans.

The program leader for the Science Festival at the MKN was curator Nikolina Ileković.
