The ”Processions of St. George the Green” event in Kumrovec

The "Old Village" Museum Kumrovec is pleased to invite you to the traditional event of the Processions of St. George the Green, which will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2026, starting at 4:30 PM.

This year's program focuses on a comprehensive interpretation of St. George's customs as a symbol of the beginning of the agricultural year and the planting of the first grains. Through a dialogue between the profession, pedagogy and living customs, we will explore the path from tilling the land to a contemporary interpretation of tradition.

EVENT PROGRAM

• 4:30 PM - opening of the exhibition Golden Furrow - From Ploughing to Harvesting in Croatian Zagorje 
  • - Tihana Kušenić (author): The exhibition connects St. George's customs with the awakening of nature and agricultural cycles, emphasizing the importance of sowing and a new beginning, as well as harvest customs and the preparation of traditional food.
• following– presentation of the author's picture book and manual on St. George's customs Hungarian Dora and the kinč tell the St. George's tale
  • - Tibor Martan (author, ethnologist and drama pedagogue): The manual offers an innovative approach to St. George's customs interpreted in local dialect and traditional kinč, protected as intangible cultural heritage. 
    The presentation and expert discussion will be attended by:
    Mladen Kuhar, Head of the Department for Ethnographic and Intangible Cultural Heritage at the Ministry of Culture and Media;
    Željka Jelavić, retired museum advisor (educator);
    Krešo Plantak Večerin, MA in Early and Preschool Education, advisor educator at DV "Varaždin";
    Tibor Martan, author, ethnologist and drama pedagogue (head of the drama groups "Ozana" and "Videki" and president of the KUU "Magda i Luisa");
    Tihana Kušenić, senior curator ethnologist and author of the program of the event Processions of St. George the Green
• finale of the program – presentation of the Processions of St. George the Green through the village
  • - Ethno association "Zipka", Kumrovec (performance): An authentic procession of St. George the Green marchers through the museum space as a living conclusion to the story of the renewal of tradition.
