Night of Fortresses brings history back to life at Veliki Tabor Castle
The Night of Fortresses event once again brought together numerous visitors at Veliki Tabor Castle, where the atmosphere of bygone times was revived through a rich program last Saturday, May 9. The program began at 12:00, and visitors of all generations had the opportunity to enjoy content inspired by history, legends and medieval customs performed by the Company of the Golden Hops association.
Medieval games and workshops were held during the day, while the evening part of the program brought a special dose of excitement through the search for secret treasure and the knights' fight for the Golden Chalice. The audience's special attention was attracted by an impressive fire show and a fight with fire torches in the atrium of Veliki Tabor Castle performed by the Knights of the Golden Chalice.
As part of the event, a guest exhibition of the Međimurje Museum Čakovec entitled Woolly Mammoths: Giants of the Ice Age was also opened. The author of the exhibition, Branka Marcijuš, pointed out that the Međimurje Museum holds a valuable collection of woolly mammoth fossils, which have been professionally processed and restored in recent years in cooperation with the Croatian Museum of Natural History.
The exhibition was created with the aim of bringing these impressive animals closer to the wider public, and today it is the most visited exhibition at the Međimurje Museum. It is presented in a smaller scale at the Veliki Tabor Castle, but visitors have the opportunity to see the original fossil finds of woolly mammoth bones and teeth, said Marcijuš.
The director of the Museums of Hrvatsko Zagorje, Jurica Sabol, greeted the visitors and officially opened the exhibition, emphasizing the importance of the museum's cooperation and the link between woolly mammoths and the Upper Pleistocene geological period, in which the Krapina Neanderthal lived.
The head of Veliki Tabor Castle, Paul Lekaj, emphasized that the Night of Fortresses event is being held for the fourth time this year and stressed the importance of cooperation with partners and knightly associations participating in the program.
The opening of the exhibition represents the beginning of the main part of the program and another example of successful cooperation between the museums, especially within the framework of the European project 'Living Castles', said Lekaj.
The event once again confirmed that Veliki Tabor Castle, through a combination of cultural heritage, education and attractive content, successfully brings history closer to a wider audience and creates a unique experience for all visitors.
