A program of workshops was held for assistant producers of ceramics

The workshop program at the Antun Augustinčić Gallery Studio is specially designed for students of the assistant ceramic producer course from Bedekovčina High School. The idea for the workshop developed after the students visited the Gallery and participated in the offered tactile sculpture workshop by Antun Augustinčić, Touch of Memory / Memory of Touch, and the presentation of the educational film, Recipe for Sculpture, which describes the making of a sculpture. The students showed great interest and themselves have a talent for shaping clay and ceramics.

The workshop program aimed to introduce them to the sculptural technique of modeling the human figure, that is, the experience and knowledge that will be useful to them as future creative ceramic manufacturers.

The workshop began with a lecture on a brief history and theory of figure shaping (from ancient Egypt to the present day). The students mastered the distinction between ancient Egyptian sculpture and Greek and Roman, as well as the basic architectural differences in cultures. They were presented with the work of the medieval sculptor Michelangelo and modern Henry Moore and Alberto Giacometti. Special emphasis was placed on the knowledge quiz in recognizing the harmonious balance of contraption in sculpture, which the students successfully mastered. After that, the students made a skeleton on small sculptural constructions as a basis for later modeling. The task of each student was to create a figure modeled after themselves. The following days were dedicated to modeling human figures from clay.

The workshops took place from 13. 2. to 17. 2. 2023 in the Studio of the Antun Augustinčić Gallery. The three-day workshops resulted in interestingly shaped figures and good feedback from the students, and awards were also awarded for completing the workshop program.

The workshop was led by museum pedagogue Petra Šoltić, with associates Robert Žitnik, Igor Siročić and Mladen Gorčki, a professional teacher in practical teaching.
