”Winter workshops and playgroups” held at Krapina Neanderthal Museum

Krapina Neanderthal Museum

The Krapina Neanderthal Museum hosted the 18th Winter Workshops and Playgroups this year, an educational program intended for preschool and elementary school children.

Children learned about Krapina Neanderthals, evolution, fossils, and minerals in a fun and interactive way through various activities. As part of the program, a Small Geological Laboratory workshop was held, in which children had the opportunity to study original fossils and minerals and use a microscope to study microfossils. Elementary school students also learned about the skeleton of a modern human and compared it to the skeleton of a Neanderthal, and they mastered the prehistoric skill of sewing using a wooden needle and stone tools, which were used to make jewelry and handbags. Program participants also visited the permanent exhibition of the Krapina Neanderthal Museum and the Hušnjakovo Site.

The program was designed and led by senior museum pedagogue Lorka Lončar Uvodić, and trainee curator Natalia Mladineo also participated in the implementation of the workshops.
