Workshop and study trips as part of the ”Living Castles 2.0” project

Museums of Hrvatsko Zagorje

On Friday, June 6, and on Monday, June 16, 2025, as part of the cross-border project Living Castles 2.0, a full-day program Living Castles Present themselves was held.

The program began with a networking and cooperation workshop at which representatives of the castles included in the network of living castles (Ptuj Castle, Borl Castle, Ormož Castle, Celje Castle, Varaždin Old Town, Čakovec Old Town, Veliki Tabor Castle and Oršić Castle) presented their work, offerings and planned activities that will be implemented through the project.

From the Museums of Hrvatsko Zagorje, Veliki Tabor Castle and Oršić Castle / Peasants' Revolts Museum are participating in the project. Multimedia equipment of the rustic hall of Veliki Tabor, purchase of virtual glasses and creation of digital solutions such as videomapping projections on the theme of The Ballad of Petrica Kerempuh and content for virtual glasses in the Peasants' Revolts Museumwill enable the revival of museum objects and the presentation of court life. In order to make both museums more accessible to the blind and visually impaired, 3D printing of museum objects is planned, and visitors will have a special experience of these historical buildings through the events Magical World of Puppets at Veliki Tabor Castle and Dance at the Court at Oršić Castle.

A study trip to Slovenian museums (Pomurje Museum Murska Sobota, Ptuj and Celje Castles), held on June 6, provided a direct insight into examples of good practice in promoting cultural heritage and the exchange of experiences.

The project continued on June 16 with a study trip to the Croatian side. Participants visited the Old Town of Čakovec, the Old Town of Varaždin, Veliki Tabor Castle and Oršić Castle / Peasants' Revolts Museum.

Living Castles 2.0 brings together museums and castles with the aim of promoting and strengthening cross-border cultural tourism through various cultural experiences and events on the theme of the Culture of Life in "Living" Castles. The project is being implemented within the framework of the Interreg Slovenia - Croatia 2021-2027 cooperation program, and is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund.
