”A Century of connections between Krapina and European heritage” - museum program on the occasion of European Heritage Days

Krapina Neanderthal Museum

On the occasion of European Heritage Days, the Krapina Neanderthal Museum organized a rich and interesting program on Sunday, October 13, in which many visitors participated.

In addition to a free tour of the museum's permanent exhibition, a dozen visitors also participated in a tour of cultural and natural heritage sites as part of the Route of the Vienna Anthropological Society. Namely, on the occasion of the 120th anniversary of the trip of the Vienna Anthropological Society under the leadership of Dragutin Gorjanović-Kramberger to Krapina, a revival of that day was organized by visiting the same locations visited by famous European anthropologists in 1904. The route by which the anthropologists were guided by the famous scientist Gorjanović-Kramberger and the famous Krapina mayor Vilibaldo Sluga consisted of a reception at the town hall, breakfast at Kneipp's restaurant K Okiću, a tour of the Old Town, Kneipp's spa and Hušnjakovo, and, finally, lunch at Villa Wochel in Dolac.

On Sunday, the visitors visited all the mentioned locations accompanied by expert guides, museum workers Mirjana Biljan, Nikolina Ileković and Lorka Lončar Uvodić, and thus got to know the rich history of the city of Krapina, from the prehistoric times of the Neanderthals and the stormy medieval era, to the golden age of Krapina, at the beginning of the 20th century. The life of the Neanderthals, the stories and legends that hide the walls of the Old Town, and the work of the Kneipp's spa, are just some of the topics that the participants could learn about. As the 170th anniversary of the birth of Krapina mayor Vilibaldo Sluga, whose bust was placed at the foot of Hušnjakovo, was also marked on that day in the organization of the City of Krapina, the participants got to know more about the life and work of this exceptional personality who is responsible for numerous valuable projects, including and the opening of the Kneipp's spa in 1903. It was with this building, where cold water treatments used to be done, and where museum programs are held today, that children and adults got to know at the creative workshop.
