The traditional event ”Procession of Jura zeleni” and the opening of the guest exhibition ”Mount Saint Donatus” by the Open Air Museum Rogatec
At the "Old Village" Museum in Kumrovec, the event "Procession of Jura zeleni" and the opening of the guest exhibition "Mount Saint Donatus" by the Open Air Museum Rogatec, curated by Irena Roškar and Emilija Štrlek, marked the beginning of the agricultural year, the awakening of nature, and the feast of St. George.
The program started already in the morning with presentations of traditional crafts and skills, and museum visitors could get acquainted with the making of children's wooden toys, blacksmith's items, basket weaving and traditional embroidery.
In the afternoon, visitors participated in a workshop on making spring flowers from crepe paper led by members of the Ivan Perkovac Association from Šenkovac. Auguštin (Gustek) Fric presented to the visitors the method of making shepherd's toys from Slovenia.
At the opening of the exhibition, the head of the "Old Village" Museum, Anita Paun-Gadža, greeted the attendees. Tatjana Brlek, museum advisor and museum pedagogue, told more about the collaboration itself, and the exhibition "Mount Saint Donatus" was presented by Nives Brezovnik. The exhibition opening program was accompanied by folk songs from Rogatec performed by the People's Singers of the Anton Stefancios Cultural Society from Rogatec. The exhibition was opened by the director of the Museums of Hrvatsko Zagorje, Jurica Sabol.
After the opening of the exhibition, the presentation of St. George's customs began, presented by members of the Cultural and Artistic Society Mihovil Krušlin and the Association of Ivan Perkovac from Šenkovac. The author of the all-day program "Procession of Jura zeleni" is the curator, ethnologist Tihana Kušenić.
Traditionally, the program ended with the lighting of St. George's bonfire accompanied by song and dance, and then with a tasting of the traditional dish cvrtje.
The exhibition is open until 1 June 1 2024.
