ICOM's annual conference held in Paraguay

Krapina Neanderthal Museum

From 15 to 17 November 2023, the annual conference organized by ICOM Paraguay, INTEROM, ICMAH and ICTOP was held in Hernandarias (Paraguay). The theme of this year's conference was Museum Leadership in Climate Action.

Through interesting lectures, panel discussions and workshops, the issue of climate change and the impact of humans on climate change and ecosystems of our planet in the Anthropocene era was highlighted. The director of the Museums of Hrvatsko Zagorje, Jurica Sabol, gave a lecture entitled Impact of the Climate Change on the World Important Neanderthal Site in Krapina (Croatia). The lecture showed an example of how climate change, primarily through an increase in the average annual air temperature and an increase in precipitation, can have a negative impact on protected natural areas. The Hušnjakovo site is one of the most significant and important prehistoric sites and is of exceptional importance, not only for Croatia, but also for the global scientific community.

The hosts of the conference were the ITAIPU Binacional and the Museo de ITAIPU Tierra Guaraní, and the ITAIPU Biosphere Reserve was included in the UNESCO Natural Heritage List.
