Together from sketch to New York

On the occasion of the 28th educational museum campaign Together: all for the museum (April 20 – May 19, 2023) and International Museum Day on May 18, 2023 with the theme Museums, Sustainability and Wellbeing

The Peace Monument by sculptor Antun Augustinčić, located in front of the United Nations headquarters in New York, has its plaster model on display at the Antun Augustinčić Gallery in Klanjec. The 5.5-meter-high sculpture always arouses great interest and numerous questions about how it was created.

It is no secret that illustrations are equally loved by adults and children, especially if they are entertaining and educational. That is why we have selected eight comic illustrations with our visitors in order to present the process of creating this great monument in a simple and humorous way.

We tell the story through comics, from the creation of Augustinčić's first sketch for the Peace Monument, to the journey of the monumental sculpture to New York.

The program Together from the sketch to New York was realized with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Media of the Republic of Croatia and remains part of the permanent offer of pedagogical and educational content of our Gallery.
