50 years of the Antun Augustinčić Gallery
The Antun Augustinčić Gallery Studio in Klanjec will open the exhibition 50 years of the Antun Augustinčić Gallery on May 8, 2026, at 5 p.m.
50 years ago, in May 1976, the Antun Augustinčić Gallery opened in Klanjec, with selected works by master sculptor, professor and academic Antun Augustinčić (Klanjec, 1900 – Zagreb, 1979), who donated his entire life's work to his native Klanjec.
With the help of archival materials and museum documentation, the exhibition traces the past 50 years in which the Klanjec gallery has gone from presenting around thirty of Augustinčić's works to caring for two museum collections with over 500 works of art by various authors, more than 140 temporary exhibitions, organizing a dozen symposia, and rich journalistic activities and the Annals, which have been published continuously for 45 years; attempts to summarize the 50 years in which the Antun Augustinčić Gallery in Klanjec has developed from a memorial gallery dedicated to a single sculptural opus to a museum of sculpture whose fruits go beyond its native roots.
The opening ceremony begins at 5 p.m., and will be enriched by a performance by the BRV klapa and the distribution of certificates of appreciation from the Gallery to deserving individuals and institutions.
The exhibition, accompanied by a catalog and a documentary video, was realized with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Media of the Republic of Croatia. Its author is Davorin Vujčić, museum advisor and director of the Gallery, and it will remain open until October 23, 2026.
