Gostujuća izložba Muzeja ”Staro selo” Sirogojno ”Nasljeđe za budućnost i revitalizacija tradicijskih vještina”

”Old Village” Museum

On Saturday, September 16, 2023, the guest exhibition of the "Old Village" open-air museum Sirogojno Heritage for the Future and Revitalization of Traditional Skills by Snežana Tomić was opened on the grounds of the "Old Village" Museum Kumrovec.

The exhibition is dedicated to the bearers of traditional knowledge and skills from the area of Zlatibor district, but also beyond, who apply their skills in handcrafting traditional products that are still in demand today. Preserved skills are a living heritage, and as such are part of the intangible cultural heritage and represent cultural assets registered in the National Register of Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Republic of Serbia, while the skill of making pottery products on a hand wheel in the village of Zlakusa is included in the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Heritage of Humanity.

The head of the "Old Village" Museum in Kumrovec, Anita Paun Gadža, addressed the visitors with a few appropriate words, and then the curator Tihana Kušenić presented the inter-museum and international cooperation of the two open-air museums. Mirela Hrovatin, Senior Advisor to the Department for Ethnographic and Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Ministry of Culture and Media, emphasized that the opening of this exhibition is an opportunity to strengthen the projects of the two museums, as well as to exchange experiences of the bearers of the intangible cultural heritage of the two countries, which are important goals of the UNESCO Convention from 2003, whose 20th anniversary we are celebrating this year. The author of the exhibition Snežana Tomić then briefly presented the exhibition to the audience, which was opened by the mayor of Kumrovec, Robert Šplajt.

The vocal group of the Josip Broz Elementary School participated in the opening program, and the opening was also accompanied by the Pupils' Cooperative Božićnica and presenters of traditional crafts from our region. Visitors could also see the making of Zlakusa products on a hand-held pottery wheel by master Milojko Nikitović.
