The exhibition ”Krapina Prehistoric Man” is visiting Vučedol

Krapina Neanderthal Museum

On Thursday, March 9, the Museum of Vučedol Culture opened a guest exhibition of the Krapina Neanderthal Museum, Krapina Prehistoric Man, authored by Jurica Sabol, a geologist and director of the Museums of Hrvatsko Zagorje.

This is a traveling exhibition that tells in an interesting, interactive and professional way about the world's most important Neanderthal site, the importance of the Krapina collection and the osteological remains of large Pleistocene mammals. In addition to a diorama of the Krapina Neanderthal habitat, the Vukovar audience was presented with part of the scientific work of Dragutin Gorjanović-Kramberger, stone tools (artifacts), models of animals from the Neanderthal period, and an interactive corner for the youngest was set up so that children of all ages could learn everything about the life and culture of the Krapina prehistoric man in the most interesting way possible.

At the opening ceremony, the guests were greeted by Mirela Hutinec, director of the Vučedol Culture Museum, the author Jurica Sabol spoke about the exhibition, and the envoy of the Minister of Culture and Media of the Republic of Croatia Anuška Deranja Crnokić opened the exhibition.

The exhibition is a continuation of the extremely successful cooperation between the Vučedol Culture Museum and the Krapina Neanderthal Museum, given that both institutions are the only holders of the European Heritage Label in Croatia. Sites of exceptional importance for the history of European humanity have been recognized by the European Commission, which awarded the Label to the Krapina Museum in 2016 and to the Vučedol Museum in 2022. During the fall of 2022, employees of the Vučedol Culture Museum held educational workshops at the Krapina Neanderthal Museum on the topics of weaving, shoemaking, and facial reconstructions of the faces of Vučedol residents.

The Krapina Prehistoric Man exhibition remains open until May 15th of this year, and as part of the Kajkavian Culture Week in Krapina, the exhibition Without Crafts, There Are No Tools, by Mirela Hutinec and Mirna Šuljug, will be hosted at Hušnjakovo.
