Opening of the exhibition ”Legend of Veronika of Desinić - intangible cultural heritage”
On Friday, October 4, 2024, at 12 pm, the exhibition Legend of Veronika of Desinić - intangible cultural heritage was opened in Veliki Tabor Castle.
The attendees were first greeted by the head of the Veliki Tabor Castle, Paul Lekaj, who welcomed everyone and thanked the Museum "Old Village" Kumrovec, the Museum of Peasants' Revolts and the Gallery of the City of Krapina for their contribution to the creation of the exhibition. The director of the Museums of Hrvatsko Zagorje, Jurica Sabol, and the deputy prefect of the Krapina-Zagorje County, Jasna Petek, greeted those present. The author of the exhibition, Nadica Jagarčec, then presented the exhibition marking the 10th anniversary of the declaration of the oral tradition about Veronika Desinićka as an intangible cultural asset and its registration in the Register of Cultural Assets of the Republic of Croatia on the list of protected cultural assets. The head of the Conservation Department in Krapina, Viki Jakaša Borić, addressed those present with a few appropriate words, and officially declared the exhibition open.
Musicians Gorana Tomašić Šragalj and Dario Šragalj completed the festive atmosphere of the event with their performance.
The exhibition presents the historical context on which the oral tradition about Veronica and Fridrik II, Count of Celje, is partly based, but also numerous works and works of art that were created under the influence of that tragic love story. Visitors have the opportunity to get to know the period of the 15th century through the chapel of St. Ivan in Ivanić Miljanski and archaeological finds from the old towns of Vrbovec, Krapina and Veliki Tabor. On the other hand, a number of items inspired by this legend, ranging from literary works and museum publications to reproductions of fine art, represent only part of the realized projects related to the protection and promotion of the oral tradition about Veronika Desinićka.
We thank everyone for coming!
Anyone interested can view the exhibition until October 4, 2025.
