Permanent exhibition ”Rural Household from the Mid-20th Century” opened

”Old Village” Museum

On the occasion of European Heritage Days, on Friday, October 10, the permanent exhibition Rural Household since the Mid-20th Century was opened at the Museum "Old village" Kumrovec.

The exhibition shows the changes in the lifestyle of the inhabitants of rural areas during the period of industrialization and urbanization in Croatia. At that time, agriculture was no longer the primary activity. The male population switched to other activities, that is, they went to the city where they were employed in socially organized industrial production and service industries. Higher earnings caused a desire for changes, especially in residential buildings. New construction materials were introduced and additional rooms were built, which improved the standard of living in rural areas. The modernization of the household is also visible in household appliances and aids that make everyday life easier, especially that of the female population. This is exactly the way of presenting the life of a Zagorje family in a completely reconstructed building at the Museum "Old village" Kumrovec. Visitors of the Museum thus receive new content, and the Museum, in the truest sense of the word, becomes a document of a time, the 19th and 20th centuries.

The opening program was led by Mateja Harapin, and the audience was addressed by Robert Šplajt, Mayor of the Kumrovec municipality, Jasna Petek, Deputy Prefect of the Krapina-Zagorje County, and Anita Paun-Gadža, author of the permanent exhibition and head of the Museum. The audience was also greeted by the director of the Museums of Hrvatsko Zagorje, Jurica Sabol, and the Envoy of the Minister of Culture, Anuška Deranja Crnokić, who declared the exhibition open.
