”Old Village” Museum

On Friday, February 13, 2026, at 12:00, the visiting exhibition Planjke, vugli, cifre - documenting the wooden architecture of Turopolje - older and new materials in the dialogue of the Turopolje Museum will open at the "Old Village" Museum in Kumrovec.

The aim of the exhibition is to highlight the need and importance of continuous documentation of wooden architecture in the Turopolje area. The exhibition brings a selection of older documentation created from the 19th century to the present day and new documentation created during 2022 and 2023. Examples examine the ways and challenges of supplementing, enriching and using documentation on wooden architecture, demonstrate the possibilities of using modern technologies in documentation, as well as the possibilities of connecting the documentation process and documentation on wooden architecture with secondary and higher education.

The exhibition conceptually consists of two parts, and will present the rich architectural heritage of Turopolje to the audience. The first thematic section discusses the continuity of documenting wooden architecture in the areas of Turopolje, Posavina, Pokuplje and Vukomeričke gorice, while the second section presents tools and techniques for making wooden houses and decorations, connecting the process of documenting and documentation of wooden architecture with secondary and higher education, video material and educational content for visitors.

The exhibition was preceded by a series of research activities and activities to popularize heritage. A great contribution to the creation of the material and its adaptation for the exhibition and in the design of the visual identity was made by expert associates Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sc. Hrvoje Tomić (Faculty of Geodesy), master carpenter Pepo Cvetković and master carpenters Goran Selanac and Marijan Dragičević with their students (Sisak Vocational School).

The exhibition and project were awarded the Special Recognition of the Croatian Museum Society for 2023 in the category of Research Work Resulting in an Exhibition and the Annual Milovan Gavazzi Award for 2023 of the Croatian Ethnological Society in the category of Protection of Cultural Heritage.

The authors of the exhibition are Maja Ergović, Senior Curator Documentary (Turopolje Museum) and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sc. Sanja Lončar (Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Zagreb), with the expert associate Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sc. Hrvoje Tomić (Faculty of Geodesy in Zagreb).
