The exhibition ”Legend of Veronika of Desinić, intangible cultural heritage” opened in Bled Castle
On Saturday, April 11, 2026, Veliki Tabor Castle presented itself in Bled Castle, Slovenia, with the opening of the exhibition The Legend of Veronica of Desinić, an Intangible Cultural Heritage.
The opening was welcomed by the Director of the Bled Culture Institute, Lea Ferjan, and the Director of the Museums of Hrvatsko Zagorje, Jurica Sabol, while the exhibition was presented by the author Nadica Jagarčec, museum advisor of Veliki Tabor Castle.
The Legend of Veronica of Desinić is one of the most famous oral traditions of Hrvatsko Zagorje, deeply engraved in the historical memory of the local community, closely connected to Veliki Tabor in a unique cultural entity and largely contributing to its recognition. This legend is also part of Slovenian national history and shows how cultural heritage connects our peoples.
The exhibition presents numerous artists and their works inspired by this unhappy love, from the Chapel of St. John from the time of the Counts of Celje to writers, scientists and contemporary media.
The Legend of Veronica of Desinić was registered as an intangible cultural asset by the decision of the Croatian Ministry of Culture in 2014 and entered into the register of cultural heritage of the Republic of Croatia.
The exhibition is set in the Knights' Hall of Bled Castle, and can be viewed until June 12, 2026.
